Expanding Your Practice Through Nuad Bo-Rarn

Level II builds upon the foundations of Traditional Thai Massage, expanding your understanding of Nuad Bo-Rarn through additional treatment positions, advanced techniques, and a deeper exploration of movement, rhythm, and therapeutic application. While Level I establishes the fundamentals, this course is where your practice begins to feel fluid, intuitive, and adaptable.

Drawing from the traditional curriculum taught in Chiang Mai, Thailand, students will continue developing their technical skills while refining body mechanics, transitions, and the ability to work with greater confidence and creativity. You'll learn how to assess the body more thoughtfully, adapt techniques to different clients, and create treatments that feel less like memorized sequences and more like meaningful therapeutic conversations.

Throughout the five-day course, we'll explore side-lying, prone, and seated positions, advanced stretching techniques, additional Sen line applications, and strategies for addressing common musculoskeletal restrictions while maintaining sustainable body mechanics.

By the end of the course, students will be able to confidently perform a complete Traditional Thai Massage treatment while integrating advanced techniques into a seamless, individualized session.

What You'll Learn

  • Side-lying, prone, and seated treatment sequences

  • Advanced stretches and therapeutic mobilizations

  • Expanded Sen Sib (energy line) applications

  • Clinical reasoning and treatment planning

  • Advanced body mechanics and therapist longevity

  • Fluid transitions and rhythm between techniques

  • Adapting treatments for different bodies and mobility levels

  • Working with common postural patterns and movement restrictions

  • Creating a complete 2–3 hour Traditional Thai Massage session

Upon Completion

Students will leave with the confidence to move beyond memorized routines and begin practicing Thai Massage as a responsive, creative, and highly effective form of therapeutic bodywork.

Traditional Thai Massage, or Nuad Bo-Rarn, is one of the world's oldest healing arts, originating in Thailand over 2,500 years ago. Often described as "assisted yoga," this dynamic form of bodywork combines rhythmic compression, acupressure, mindful movement, and assisted stretching to promote mobility, balance, and overall well-being. Northern-style Thai Massage, as taught in Chiang Mai, is known for its gentle rhythm, flowing transitions, and emphasis on yoga-like stretches and practitioner body mechanics.

This three-day course follows the traditional curriculum taught in Chiang Mai, Thailand, introducing students to the foundations of Nuad Bo-Rarn while integrating modern anatomical understanding and sustainable body mechanics. Whether you're an experienced massage therapist or completely new to Thai Massage, you'll learn to move with confidence, apply techniques efficiently, and use your entire body—not just your hands—to deliver effective treatment.

By the end of the course, students will have the skills and confidence to perform a complete 60–90 minute Traditional Thai Massage in the supine position, while developing a deeper appreciation for movement, presence, and therapeutic touch. This condensed format mirrors the first three days of ITM's Level I Foundation course, introducing the front-body sequence, assisted stretches, acupressure, and the foundational concepts of Sen energy lines.

What You'll Learn

  • The history and philosophy of Northern-style Thai Massage (Nuad Bo-Rarn)

  • Principles of body mechanics and therapist longevity

  • Mindful movement and efficient use of body weight

  • Traditional compression techniques using palms, thumbs, forearms, and body weight

  • Assisted stretching to improve mobility and range of motion

  • Introduction to the Sen Sib (10 Energy Lines) and their role within Traditional Thai Massage

  • Proper positioning, rhythm, and transitions

  • Client communication, safety, and contraindications

  • A complete supine (front-body) treatment sequence

  • Bodyworkers

  • Yoga teachers

  • Movement professionals

  • Health care practitioners

  • Beginners interested in learning Traditional Thai Massage

My Teaching Philosophy

Bodywork is more than a collection of techniques—it's a way of observing, thinking, and responding to the body in front of you.

My goal isn't simply to teach techniques — it's to change the way therapists think about bodywork. By integrating anatomy, biomechanics, gravity, breath, and intentional movement, I hope to help practitioners work with the forces already available to them rather than relying solely on muscular effort. The result is bodywork that is more effective, more intuitive, and sustainable for a lifetime of practice.
